The Bored Post....

Hey, I'm bored.
I'm getting ready, actually, to head down to the gym to do what I call the weekend warrior bit. That's when I do a full session with the weights and then a full hour of cardio. I can't do that during the week becuase of the time restraint, but it works on the weekend.
We need to arrange a play date or something... gym then freelance work, then housechores are making me a dull girl.

The Color Purple

Ok, it seems that I am the golden child. They want to mimic what JWS does with marketing and guess who they think is their girl. Except that thankfully, I don't have to give anything sensitive away. Because what they want isn't insider info, it's simply just better marketing techniques. For instance, they had no idea how to implement a telemarketing campaign for renewals.

But I digress.

The real reason for this post is to talk about something a little more scary. I was working with our internal designer for an upcoming brochure. The top headline banner on the brochure was plum. Well, the owner gave it the put-down because he thinks purple is garish. As is green, orange, yellow, etc. The colors he really digs are blues and browns.

Monday... again

Well, it's Monday, which always seems to come too quickly, but the weekend was a lovely one. I thought I'd blog this tidbit, since it definately would have been worth of a walk to Starbucks.
Saturday, marked a year of us being enagaged and we went to get the new cage for the kiddos. (FYI if any child welfare type folks are reading, my kiddos are rodents and the cage is uber posh.) It was really a nice ride with a lot of lovely conversation, some wedding planning and some looking back (fondly) over the past year.
We actually detoured to a winery, which was interesting because I had no idea that vineyards existed in that part of the country. We got a nice bottle of Apple wine - a light, sweet fruity white and a Cherry wine - which we haven't opened yet.
The kids were not immediately in love with the new cage. It's funny, I got pets that hate change, just like me ;-) . So we spent most of the early part of the evening reassuring them that we still loved them, we didn't get another pair of chins, and that everything would be ok in the new cage. They eventually settled down and are now quite happy. I do have some photos, so if anyone wants to see, let me know.

The Playground

Ok, so this is an Elf Momma and Elf Boy post.

Last night Elf Momma and I spoke about 10:00pm. Since it was late and since she was trying to get her kids to sleep, I thought it best to not go over. (She thought perhaps I could just wait until they got to sleep?!) So she suggested that we should get up early before everyone else and go out and get breakfast for Saturday morning. When I asked at what time she refused to give me an answer and said agitated that she would just call me.

Today she called at 8:45am. While I was thinking about getting up already, I hadn't had my coffee yet. She tells me that everyone is up and instead of going out to get breakfast to bring back, they want to go to the park and eat. She goes on to say that they are out of coffee and orders me to make some and put it in a thermos. I tell her that this is going to take a bit then, because I have to get the coffee ready and get myself ready. She is very agitated by this and tells me how important it is to get out now because she's going to get sick if she doesn't eat. When I explain that I haven't even had a cup of coffee yet myself, she gets further agitated saying, "This is a yes or a no. Can you or can you not go to the park?" When I tell her that it isn't going to work out like that and I that I would happily meet her with coffee, she gets angry saying that she doesn't have enough money to get me breakfast too. (Yes, it was that out of the blue) I explained that I'd meet her there and get my own breakfast. I was irritated enough that I didn't bother making them coffee. Passive aggressive? Perhaps.

Skipping to the real reason why I posted, Little E. was running around the playground. And the thing is, I can't just let her run off without feeling the need to keep a close eye on her. I do not, for instance, let her jump in big standing pools of water on the ground so she can roll around in it picking up peoples trash in it and drink the dirty water. I do not let her go down the bigger slide by herself without being there to make sure she goes down safe. I do not let her run half way across the other side while just sitting, staring at her. Things like that. But Elf Momma called me on the carpet. She wanted to know why I did these things when she was there watching Little E. I apologized saying that I really should just let her take care of Little E. She then began to question me about the above things and it got really uncomfortable.

I have a tough time letting things like that go. I can't easily watch things that I feel instinctively are unsafe. And now I'm being criticized for being irrational. Argh.

$40 A Day

Yes, that's what I'm watching now; $40.00 a day with Rachel Ray. Today Rachel, the perpetually happy, perpetually 'on', perpetually too skinny to be chowing down all over the world like she does is in Antigua. Our gal has just had a $5.00 smoothie for breakfast and is droning on and on and on about the fresh fruit and how delish it is.
Speaking of food, we had some pig emails back and forth today and June 30th won't work, so it's looks like we gather at the divine swine until July. NRH let us know what works.
Tomorrow is our engagement anniversary - 1 year (hard to believe it's gone so fast) and we're off to PA to pick up the new chinchilla cage. At this time 24 hours from now my fluffly little babies will be sprawled out in their new pad.
That's pretty much it from me. No 'work' news to relate - any plans for the weekend with Mr. PftE?

Tea Time

So now that Ms. NRH is in exile at a smaller, cozier press there have been developments in my world. Development one: lunchtime workouts, this is sure to please my trainer and perhaps, like Oprah a second daily treadmill trek will be what catapults me into more rapid weight loss and toning. Development two: caffeine withdrawal headache. I only had one cuppa tea this morning and noticed an odd pounding in my skull at 3 pm. It was not my more familiar migraine – but a new pain. Then I realized I’d missed my mid morning and lunchtime teas (not that we took tea 3 times a morning every morning but still…).

How is the tea at cozy press? Do you get tea breaks? Is there a Starbucks nearby? Have you, like Jerry Seinfeld before you, replaced me already – is there a cozy press tea buddy?

Return from Charm City

Back from Charm City with not much to tell.
NRH - I'm glad your first day was a good one and at this point hope the second day was too.
Enjoy your night at the Met tomorrow. I feel so Sex and the City by association - you're going to a museum opening with Mr. PftE. Oh la la.
The party was pretty good, though the true idea of goth was lost amid a sea of new wave goth. Goth girls wear combat boots dammit - not designer high heels. I was vindicated when many of the guests noticed my combat boots and complimented me on my original attire. That was funny. It was very interesting to meet so many of our clients and my demo went off without a hitch.
I have to say my opinion of Charm City (that's what they call it, not my nickname for the place) has not changed. I don't understand how people can live there. Not to be a snot, but it's the most foul place I've ever been. Absolutely foul. Even the harbor which is supposed to be THE place to hang is nasty.
My chin-chins are not pleased with me for having been away and they refused raisins when I got home and I have a ton of laundry to I'll wrap it up here.
Wish I had more juicy bits to share - but that's it for now.

The First Day

Well, I made it through the first day. Everyone seemed nice. It is definitely a small press, however. The space is much more open than JWS, if you can believe it. And the there are only 2 bathrooms (i.e., one-stallers) for the entire press. The marketing department is a whopping total of 12. The guy who had my job will be here until September and is training me. That is a nice perk, actually. My boss is collaborative and supportive. Overall, it will be a good way to get back to fundamentals. But, I confess that I feel in exile from JWS. Not that I think I shouldn't have left, because it was the right thing to do. I just feel surreal about it all. All in all, though, a good first day.
